Textile Conservation Workshop, Algeria
Sponsored by the U.S. Ambassador's Grant for Cultural Preservation, National Bardo Museum, Algiers, Algeria. Working in a 16th century Moorish villa museum, training 10 professionals, this workshop focused on the treatment and stabilization of 15 Ottoman style textiles and the upgrade of strorage and exhibition conditions.

Textile Conservation Project, Madagascar
Sponsored by the U.S. Ambassador's Grant for Cultural Preservation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Here are scenes from the three-week textiles conservation workshop, training 12 participants from 4 different museums in Madagascar. Focusing on an important 19th century collection of traditional Malagasy shawls or "lambas," the training incorporated accessioning, condition reporting, color testing, cleaning, stabilization and treatments, preparing a state of the art climate controlled storage room and preparing thirty textiles for an exhibition.

Residence of the Turkish Ambassador
Over 800 square feet of 19th century silk embroidered and appliqued wall hangings were removed for extensive cleaning, repair and stabilization. The textiles were reinstalled after the complete renovation of the Ambassador's residence. |

Babe Ruth Kimono for the Sports Legend Museum, Baltimore, USA
Here is the Imperial Hotel kimono given to Babe Ruth in 1939 in Tokyo to honor the All Stars tour to Japan. It was barely salvageable when it first came to the studio. Treatment included cleaning, disassembly and reassembly, encapsulation of weak and damaged areas...it is now on display at the Sports Legend Museum.

George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate, Virginia, USA
Conserving artifacts of George and Martha Washington is an enormous contribution to preserving America's cultural heritage. Pictured are Martha Washington's sewing box before and after treatment and one of George Washington's dapper silk waistcoats during conservation treatment. The before pictures are on the left and the after pictures are on the right.
